This Chef and Brewer is a little townie on the outside and fake rustic on the inside.
We were welcomed in and seated quickly by friendly staff. The selection of ale was Doom Bar, Hobgoblin and IPA. The usual array of lager and alcopop style ciders also available. We didn't have wine but the list was overpriced with a limited range.
The service was good. Quick and friendly, by everyone we encountered.
The food. Being familar with Chef and Brewer fare we opted to try food from the game festival menu (even though they couldn't spell pheasant) and ended up with undercooked venison, an overcooked burger, burnt chips and tiny potatoes... Not fabulous but not completely awful. Not great value for money either but the standard menu offers some good cheaper options.
